IVF success rates

What are Fertility Madrid’s success rates?

Success rates vary depending on the assisted reproduction treatment involved. Except in the case of egg donation, the patient’s age is a determining factor, since from the age of 30 a woman’s ovarian reserve decreases considerably.

When you are considering IVF treatment, knowing the success rates and understanding what these statistics mean is essential to making the best decision about your future.

Our greatest achievements are the stories of people who have fulfilled their dream of having a child.

IVF success of up to 90% with a personalised approach
At Fertility Madrid, we help up to 90% of couples achieve their dream of having a child. Thanks to our individualised approach and the combination of different assisted reproduction methods, we reach this result within a maximum of 4 cycles.

Embryo transfer

Age is a very important factor that influences treatment success rates. At our clinic, these rates are very high because we personalise hormonal stimulation, tailoring it to each patient’s needs, and because we have advanced in vitro fertilisation laboratories where embryos develop and are selected under the best possible conditions.
We achieve a success rate of around 50% when treating patients with their own eggs, and we are continuously improving our results in patients between 40 and 43 years of age.
Since egg quality decreases with age, we are only able to obtain good-quality eggs in about half of these patients. Nevertheless, our embryo transfer success rate for this group is 18%, which is very high for this age range.

Egg donation

Thanks to egg donation, women who cannot conceive with their own eggs can become pregnant using donor eggs and sperm from either their partner or a donor bank.
  • Number of donated oocytes: 8–12

  • 100% of donated oocytes are fresh

  • Fertilisation rate: 81%

At Fertility Madrid, our success rate in egg donation treatment is +12% higher than the Spanish average (SEF 2020 data).

Our success rate in egg donation treatments is 65% with partner sperm per transfer.

IVF success rates with donor sperm

The use of donor sperm in IVF treatments shows a higher success rate compared to couples with male infertility.
However, since donor sperm has been previously analysed and selected, the success rates are similar to those of healthy, non-donor sperm samples. Women under 35 years of age have a higher success rate in IVF treatments. Naturally, success rates decrease with age. For women aged 40 or over, the probability per cycle is below 10%.

Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT)

Through preimplantation genetic testing, we can increase pregnancy success rates by almost 10% (61.4% after PGT in IVF with a patient’s own eggs).
The main reason for performing this test is that up to 44% of embryos that appear morphologically normal actually present an incorrect genetic distribution. These embryos may stop developing after transfer, as inadequate genetic information can prevent implantation in the uterus.
Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) allows us to detect alterations in chromosomes (PGT-SR), their number (PGT-A or genetic IVF), or in a specific gene (PGT-M).
Thanks to these tests, we can identify genetic problems in embryos and transfer only those that are optimal, thereby reducing the risk of miscarriage and increasing the chances of having a healthy baby, free from diseases such as Down, Turner or Klinefelter syndromes.

How a woman’s age affects her chances of getting pregnant and having a healthy baby

A woman is born with all her eggs, which decrease in both quantity and quality over time. Age is the most important factor in female fertility.
Good health helps, but it does not prevent the impact of ageing.
  • Between 20 and 25 years: 25–30% chance of pregnancy per month
  • From age 30, fertility progressively declines and accelerates after 35
  • At age 40, the chance per cycle is ~5%

Your lifestyle and IVF success

Your lifestyle can make a difference to the outcome of an IVF treatment.

  • Stop smoking and drinking alcohol before starting the process to give your body the best chance of conceiving.
  • Maintain a healthy weight, which improves the effectiveness of medication and hormones during treatment.
  • Look after your overall well-being, as a balanced body responds better to stimulation and increases the chances of success.

  • We just met with Dr. Oviedo to begin preparations for the transfer of the little embryo we have frozen. The other one we had is now almost 2 years old, and it’s this little sweetheart in the photo — here thanks to the doctor’s hands and the entire Fertility team: embryologist, nurses, receptionists, everyone.
You are all wonderful. Thank you so, so much!

  • Thank you for everything, Ana — I’ll never get tired of saying it! I hope I get to keep carrying it a thousand more times!!
I’ll never be able to thank you enough.

Erica’s words to our colleague Ana
  • From the moment I walked into Fertility Madrid and met the woman who would become my gynecologist, I knew I was in the right place to make my dream come true.
It wasn’t an easy journey, but I always had the support, care, and professionalism of the entire team — especially Ana Fernández.
Thanks to all of you, Jon is here with me today. You are incredible!
    Thank you.

Erica Senderos shares some lovely words with us
  • The entire team at Fertility Madrid (especially Dr. Lydia Pilar Suárez and Dr. Oscar Oviedo) is simply wonderful.
We don’t have the words to properly thank them! They were incredibly professional and kind throughout the entire treatment.
We felt like family with them (and in my opinion, that’s so important in this kind of situation).
Thanks to them, the little “result” of the treatment is now sleeping here in our arms.
Without a doubt, the best fertility clinic in Madrid! I would never choose another one!

  • From the moment we had our first consultation at Fertility Madrid, we knew it was the right place.
Rafa, Óscar, and the rest of the team — from the anesthesiologists to the receptionists — make you feel like more than just a number. And I think that’s the most important thing when you’re navigating the world of infertility, where you often feel a bit lost.
Even though our first IVF treatment didn’t go as we had hoped, we knew we were in the right place. And we were right — today we can say we’ve fulfilled our dream thanks to Fertility Madrid, and her name is Olivia.
The truth is, even though we live in Cyprus, we’re already planning how to organize ourselves for the next treatment to see if it’s possible to give Olivia a sibling — and she’s only 25 days old!
    Thank you.
    Warm regards.

  • We wanted to send our greetings to Dr. Rafael Collazos and the entire team at Fertility Madrid and thank you for the care we received from the very first moment we arrived at the clinic.
From the beginning, Dr. Rafael explained the treatment we needed in great detail and treated us with the utmost professionalism and seriousness.
From the receptionists to the nurses, embryologists, and Dr. Rafael Collazos himself, everyone treated us with such kindness and professionalism every step of the way.
It was a very complex treatment — not easy at all — but with 100% accuracy. The treatment was a success for us, as we achieved it on the very first transfer.
It’s been a long nine months, with very close monitoring, and on November 15th our beautiful baby girl was born — a truly cherished little one.

    A thousand thanks!

  • Today marks one year since we walked through the doors of the clinic to begin the egg donation process. And what a year it’s been... So many things have happened (many of them quite strange) that it feels both short and long at the same time.

I had already been there in February for an initial consultation that my husband couldn’t attend, and I left with a really good feeling. I liked the facilities, but above all, I loved how the gynecologist treated me. Even so, since I’m the most indecisive person in the world, it took me over a month to make up my mind. The fact that he hadn’t been able to come didn’t help, because even though he told me from the start that we’d go wherever I wanted, his impressions meant a lot to me.

As you know, during that month I went over every single pro and con of all the clinics we had visited. I weighed the facilities, the staff, the prices, the guarantees, the location… This wasn’t the cheapest clinic or the closest, but something inside me told me it was the right one. So I told my husband, he agreed, and we made an appointment to finally get started.

The pandemic was already making itself felt in Spain. Schools had closed in Madrid, and the situation was, at the very least, worrying. We actually had the appointment set earlier and postponed it by a couple of days out of fear… But in the end, we decided to go. We didn’t know what the future held, how long this would all last, whether things would return to normal soon or more places (including fertility clinics) would close and everything would be delayed. With so much uncertainty, we felt we had to at least take the first step. I think we made the right call — just two days later, the state of emergency was declared and everything shut down.

One year later, with the pandemic still affecting our lives far more than we would have imagined back then, I’m pregnant — and infinitely grateful.
Grateful to the entire team at Fertility Madrid for making this possible — to our gynecologist, the nurses, the embryologists, the reception staff, the psychologist… And of course, grateful to that anonymous donor, because without her, our little one wouldn’t be on the way.
