A fertility study is the evaluation of the female and male reproductive systems to determine a couple’s reproductive potential and to identify whether any issues might prevent conception and the birth of a healthy baby.
According to large-scale epidemiological studies, infertility affects 15% of the reproductive-age population in Western countries — that is, one in six couples — and continues to increase.
The Spanish Fertility Society recommends carrying out a fertility study if a couple has not achieved pregnancy after one year of unprotected sexual relations.
The evaluation should begin earlier in women over 35, in cases of genetic conditions, irregular menstrual cycles, recurrent miscarriages, previous pelvic surgery in women, or previous genital pathology in men.
